Headwaters Health Care Centre Welcomes Presentation of new Strategic Plan from the Mississauga Halton Central West Regional Cancer Program

Regional partnership brings connected and coordinated cancer care closer to home

June 13, 2018, ORANGEVILLE – Today, Headwaters Health Care Centre was host to the presentation of the Mississauga Halton Central West Regional Cancer Program’s new Strategic Plan to Headwaters’ physicians, staff and leaders.

One of every two Ontarians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. The introduction of a system-wide, coordinated approach to providing cancer services was hailed as an important milestone by the staff of Headwaters Health Care Centre, which recently became an accredited site of the Ontario Breast Screening Program.

Leslie Starr-Hemburrow, Regional Vice President, Mississauga Halton Central West Regional Cancer Program & Vice President, Patient Care Services, Trillium Health Partners outlined how the regional cancer strategy is based on four priorities that will guide cancer service delivery: support the whole person; connect and coordinate care; optimize quality of care and experience; and excel in performance and sustainability. She said, “As we developed our strategy we asked stakeholders what matters to them and it was clear – it matters that we provide exceptional, compassionate care for people impacted by cancer.”

Physicians and staff at Headwaters Health Care Centre, which has had an oncology program for over 15 years, welcomed the opportunity to work more closely with their community partners. Dr. Jeff McKinnon, Chief of Medicine at Headwaters Health Care Centre said, “It is through the decision-makers at our organizations and the individuals on the ground – frontline staff, nurses, physicians and leaders at all levels – that we will put those priorities into action, to better cancer care services for our patients now and in the future.”
