Service Description: FREE program for pregnant women about nutrition and learning to give a baby the healthiest start possible

Healthy Start: provides pregnant women of all ages with the skills, confidence and resources needed to keep themselves and their child healthy throughout their pregnancy and in to the first few months after birth

Participants will receive:

  • prenatal vitamins
  • grocery gift cards
  • healthy food
  • information about resources in the community
  • support from a social worker and dietitian

Participants will learn about:

  • healthy eating
  • what to expect during pregnancy
  • breastfeeding
  • caring for baby
  • infant safety
  • the benefits of exercise; during and after pregnancy
  • taking care of mother's mental health
  • supporting the baby’s mental health
  • bonding with the baby
  • giving birth in Canada

Participants will make: connections with other pregnant women


Family Kitchen: offers parents with children under the age of 6 years, an opportunity to learn cooking skills, prepare nutritious, low cost meals and provides the family with at least one healthy meal per week. Program presented for families with young children living on low incomes

Eligibility / Target Population: Healthy Start: Pregnant women: on a fixed or low income * separated from their family and need extra support * a pregnant teen
