This live on zoom presentation shares findings from research conducted at Hospice Mississauga which revealed the challenges in defining spiritual care and how this creates obstacles in introducing it to clients. As such, spiritual care tends to be an underutilized resource. Additional secondary research emphasizes the vital contribution spiritual care makes to clients’ and caregivers’ ability to cope when faced with the inevitable existential issues related to death. As part of the presentation, we will invite participants to share thoughts & ideas about spiritual care. By fostering a shared understanding among staff/volunteers and creating accessible spiritual care services, we can achieve excellence in meeting the spiritual and existential needs of clients, families, caregivers, volunteers & staff in hospice.
Presenter Cindy Beggs is a Bereavement and Spiritual Care Counsellor at Hospice Mississauga, a Registered Psychotherapist & Associate Member of the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care. She is certified as a Grief Informed Professional & in Level 1 Foundations of Mindfulness-Based Symptom Management.
