Service Description: Family Law Information Centres provide information on:
  • separation, divorce and related family law issues
  • child protection
  • family justice services
  • alternative forms of dispute resolution
  • local community recourses
  • court processes


Legal Aid Ontario provides duty counsel lawyers virtually and in person at courthouses who

  • listen to family law issues
  • make suggestions about what to do
  • explain the laws applicable to a situation
  • review completed court forms those that need to be completed


Duty counsel lawyers are available on the day of the family proceeding and in some instances may also assist when a person goes before the judge. A duty counsel lawyer cannot represent a person in a court case
